2008 Summer Camp Programmes

EXPLORERS
Ages: 6 - 7
Price per session: $280.00, $230 for session 8
Available: Sessions 2,4,6,8
Length: 5 days (Monday to Friday), Session 8 is all-girls camp and is 4 days (Monday to Thursday)
An introductory camp for our youngest campers! Exporers participate in activities with their cabin group as well as campfires, special event and an overnight sleep-out in a tipi. We offer a lower ratio of staff to campers for this younger group. Due to the short nature of the session 8, there will be no tipi sleepover.

• DISCOVERERS
Ages: 8 - 12
Price per session: $280, $230 for session 8
Available: Sessions 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 (note session 8 is ALL GIRLS)
Length: 5 days (Monday to Friday), Session 8 is 4 days (Monday to Thursday)
Discoverers spend their week trying many exciting activities YoWoChAs has to offer. At the beginning of their week, Discoverers choose two of the following interest groups: Wind and Water (boating), Rocks and Ropes (climbing and ropes courses), Canvas and Clay (nature and crafts) or Targets and Tree Forts (archery and wilderness skills). Interest groups meet most mornings. In the afternoon, Discoverers join their cabin group for activities planned by their Counsellor. They also participate in campfires, an overnight, onsite out trip, the weekly special event, and much more. Due to short nature of session 8, there will be no out trip.

• DISCOVERERS Tipi Living
Ages: 10 - 12
Price per session: $280, $230 for session 8
Available: Session 1,5, 8 - Girls only
Sessions 3, 7 - Boys only
Length: 5 days (Monday to Friday), Session 8 is 4 days (Monday to Thursday)
Discoverers who choose the Tipi Living programme participate in the regular Discoverers programme as described above but live in a tipi! This is a chance for older Discoverers to have a unique YoWoChAs experience while still enjoying favourite outdoor activities.

• SAILORS
Ages: 10-15
Price per session: $340
Available: White Sail 1 & 2 Session: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
White Sail 3 - Session: 7
Length: 5 days (Monday to Friday)
Sailors spend their days in practical and lecture sessions earning Canadian Yachting Association ( CYA ) White Sail levels certification. In the evening, sailor try other activities offered at YoWoChAs.

*NOTE: Participants must be able to swim 25m unassisted.

• PROSPECTORS
Ages: 13 - 15 years
Price per session: $315, $270 for session 8
Available: Sessions 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 (*NOTE Session 8 is all GIRLS camp)
Length: 5 days (Monday to Friday), Session 8 is 4 days (Monday to Thursday)
Campers opting for the challenge of this advanced camping experience will receive canoe instruction, learn basic belaying and climbing technique, try the most advanced elements on our high ropes course and go on an overnight canoe trip on Lake Wabamun. Prospectors stay in tent cabins, allowing for a more wilderness camping experience.

• Leaders In Training
Ages: 14 - 15 (Must be 14 by July 1, 2008)
Price per session: $725
Length: 12 days (Monday to second Friday)
Available: July 7 - 18
This exciting programme will give participants the chance to learn more about group dynamics and examine their personal abilities as a leader. Through classroom and practical sessions, this group will explore leadership theories, share ideas and learn from each other. Skill development in outdoor recreation activities will be a focus as will participation in all-camp events.

• Counsellors In Training
Ages: 15 - 16 (Must be 15 by July 1, 2008)
Price per session: $1200
Length: 26 days (Monday to fourth Friday)
Available: July 28 to August 22
Participants spend their time learning to lead children in the outdoors. The first three weeks are spent learning how to lead children and YoWoChAs activities, as well as receiving First Aid certification and the Pleasure Craft Operator's Card. The forth week, CITs will be paired with experienced counsellors for a five-day practical counselling experience. This program is the recommended pre-requisite for YoWoChAs staff members.

*NOTE: To apply for this programme a C.I.T. Application Form must be filled out. This form can be obtained from the YoWoChAs office or follow the link below. All applicants must participate in a screening process. Contact us for more information about C.I.T. scholarships.

• ALL GIRLS CAMP
Spend the last week of your summer enjoying all the excitement of camp with
all girls! All Girls Camp encourages friendship and camaraderie among girls,
while eliminating outside pressures that sometimes hinder the ability to learn
and have fun. This unique camping experience is offered session 8. This shortened week (Monday to Thursday) is the perfect end to your summer!
The following programmes available: Explorers (ages 6 - 7), Discoverers
(ages 8 - 12), Discoverers Tipi Living (ages 10 - 12), and Prospectors
(ages 13 - 15).

*Please note: Staff for All Girls Camp is co-ed.

• FOOD ALLERGY CAMP
In partnership with Alberta Allergy Information Association, we are pleased to
host a camp for children with severe food allergies. This camp, to be held during Session 4, will enable children with severe and life threatening food allergies to enjoy camp life in a safe environment. To learn more about htis partenership and the additional dietary and medical resources available during this week, please contact the YoWoChAs office.

*Please note: Session 4 is open and available to children with and without food allergies and regular programming and menu options will continue to be offered during this week. In addition, we are able to accommodate campers with food allergies in all sessions with advanced notice.


• CAMPERSHIPS
Through generous donations made by community members, the YWCA Edmonton's YoWoChAs Outdoor Education Centre is able to provide financial assistance to campers in need. Campership application forms are available from the YoWoChAs office. ( Please see contact information. )

Consider helping campers who would not be necessarily be able to afford camp
by donating to the Campership fund. All donations are tax deductible and 100%
of Campership donations go towards camp fees.
