Outdoor Programmers
Spring - 25 April 2008 to 28 June 2008
Fall - 2 September 2008 to 31 October 2008
Outdoor Programmers deliver educational and recreational programmes
designed to enhance each participant's respect for self, others
and the environment. In addition to programme delivery, Outdoor
Programmers assist in programme maintenance, administration and
development.
Minimum qualifications are:
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Experience leading residential camping and/ or outdoor
education programmes
• Ability to teach introductory lessons in Leadership Development,
Environmental Education, and Outdoor Pursuits
• Comfortable working in a high angle environment on our
Challenge Course (i.e. climbing wall, high ropes course)
• Other certifications are an asset.
Various length and concurrent contracts are also available.
Summer Positions
All Summer positions start 29 June 2008 and end 28 August 2008
Leadership Specialists (2 positions)
Two highly skilled Leadership Specialists are responsible for
planning and delivering the Leaders-In-Training and Counsellor
In Training programmes. In addition, these leaders will also spend
time in camp acting as resource leaders to fellow staff and campers.
Minimum qualifications are:
• 18 years of age by commencement of camp programme
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Certification and/or experience leading beginner level
out trips
• Programme delivery experience in both outdoor residential
and out trip environments
• Other certifications are an asset
Sailing Instructor (1 position)
With the assistance of a Counsellor and Assistant Counsellor,
the Sailing Instructor plans and delivers Canadian Yachting Association
White Sail I, II and III Youth Sailing Camps.
Minimum qualifications are:
• 18 years of age by commencement of camp programme
• CYA Instructor Level I / Green Sail Certification, registered
for 2008
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Current National Lifeguard Service certification and/or
Canoe/Kayak instructor certification is an asset
Summer Outdoor Programmer (2 positions)
The Summer Outdoor Programmer provides leadership for all our
base camp programmes and facilitate our weekend user groups. The
Summer Outdoor Programmer is responsible for ensuring the smooth
operation of the camp schedule and its programmes. In addition,
this position completes programme related maintenance and office
work as required. Other duties will include assisting with all
camp programmes and being a resource person to other staff, supervising
all waterfront activities and operating all aspects of our challenge
ropes course.
Minimum qualifications are:
• 18 years of age by commencement of camp programme
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Programme delivery and counselling experience in outdoor
residential camping environments
• Programme delivery experience and/or certification in
a waterfront setting, on a high ropes course and climbing wall
environment is an asset
Lifeguard (1 position)
The Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the safe and smooth
operation of the waterfront and its programmes. In addition, the
Lifeguard will facilitate some weekend user groups and will complete
program related maintenance and administrative work as required.
Minimum qualifications are:
• 18 year of age by commencement of camp programme
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Current National Lifeguard Service certification
• Programme delivery experience in a waterfront setting
and/or residential camping environment
Wellness / Inclusion Specialist (1
position)
The Wellness / Inclusion specialist is responsible for overseeing
camper health, hygiene and safety; and providing assistance for
campers with special needs. This is an ideal position for a student
in a nursing or health programme who is interested in pediatric
medicine or children's health promotion.
Minimum qualifications are:
• Experience working with people with special needs (e.g.
mental and physical disabilities)
• High standard of first aid skills - minimum of current
Standard First Aid and CPR
• Medicine administration course or similar training / experience
• Programme delivery experience in an outdoor residential
environment is an asset
Prospector Counsellor (2 positions)
The Prospector Counsellor is responsible for the leadership of
campers aged 13 - 15 in an advanced camping experience. This counsellor
will work with and assistant counsellor to plan and lead the following
each week: canoe lesson, belay school and wall climbing, an overnight
canoe trip and other camp programmes.
Minimum Qualifications are:
• 18 years of age by commencement of camp programme
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Programme delivery in an outdoor residential environment
• Canoeing certification and Experience or certification
on a High Ropes course or Climbing Wall is an asset
Counsellors (7 positions)
Counsellors are responsible for providing a safe, fun and educational
nature oriented camp experience for an assigned camper group.
Minimum qualifications are:
• 18 years of age by the commencement of camp programme
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Programme delivery experience in an outdoor residential
setting
• Other certifications are an asset
Assistant Counsellors (10 positions)
Assistant Counsellors work with the guidance of Counsellors to
contribute a safe, fun and education nature oriented camp experience
for an assigned camper group.
Minimum qualifications are:
• 16 years of age by the commencement of camp programme
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Knowledge of / experience in programming in an outdoor
residential environment
• Other certifications are an asset

Regardless of What Position you Take
All programme staff members are required to live on site, accordingly
room and partial board are provided. Due to the residential nature
of the centre actual hours of work vary, however, programme hours
are from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. All positions work under the direction
and guidance of the Programme Coordinator or the Programme Technician.
